The Statues at Tokudaiji
  • Nichiren Daishonin (Far Left): The founder of the Nichiren sect. He is depicted in his iconic standing pose, holding a Lotus Sutra scroll in his left hand and a fan in his right, symbolizing his role as a teacher and protector of the dharma.

  • Jizo Bosatsu (Center Standing): The "Bodhisattva of the Earth Store." He holds a Shakujo (Buddhist staff) to wake us from delusions and a Cintamani (wish-fulfilling jewel) in his other hand. He is a guardian for travelers and children.

  • Kneeling Figure (Right): This is likely a depiction of a devout follower or a specific historical disciple of Nichiren, shown in a posture of deep prayer (Gassho) and reverence toward the teachings.

  • Shichimen Daimyojin (Small Altar): The small shrine on the left with the red banners is dedicated to the Seven-faced Goddess, a powerful protector deity of the Lotus Sutra.
