Phraya Chaiyabun (born Thong-yu Suwannab

Phraya Chaiyabun (born Thong-yu Suwannabat) was the first Siamese High Commissioner of Phrae during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). He is a symbol of integrity and loyalty, having sacrificed his life during the "Shan (Ngiao) Rebellion" in 1902. When the Shan rebels seized the city and attempted to force him to sign away the sovereignty of Phrae, he steadfastly refused despite facing torture, eventually being executed near Ban Rong Waeng. His heroism prompted King Rama V to posthumously promote him to the rank of "Phraya Ratcharitthanon Phahon Phonphakdi" and erect a monument to commemorate his indomitable spirit.
