Ancient Scripture Cabinets

The ancient scripture cabinets at Wat Phra That Sri Don Kham are significant artifacts used to preserve palm-leaf manuscripts and mulberry paper books (Phap Sa) containing Buddhist teachings. These cabinets showcase master-level Lanna craftsmanship, featuring exquisite "Lai Rot Nam" (gilded lacquerware) and intricate wood carvings. Motifs typically include traditional Kanok patterns, floral designs, and mythical Himavanta creatures. Beyond their aesthetic value, they serve a functional purpose in protecting the manuscripts from insects and humidity according to ancient wisdom. Some of these cabinets are currently exhibited in the Phra Chao Phra To Museum, alongside numerous carved wooden Buddha images, serving as a cultural heritage learning center for Long District.
