Folklore

Nong Han Lake is steeped in the local folklore of "Pha Daeng Nang Ai," a story about a Naga (mythical serpent) disguised as a white squirrel who was killed and his flesh shared among the entire city. This led to a land subsidence, forming a large lake and giving rise to numerous small islands and islets today, such as Don Sawan. The surrounding area continues to reflect the abundance of its ecosystem, a core value for the people of Sakon Nakhon for a long time.
