History

The history of "Luang Phor Pu" began as a laterite Buddha image transported along the Tha Chin River in the past. Due to a severe storm, it was temporarily invited to stay at Wat Krok Krak and could not be moved further due to a miracle that made the image mysteriously heavy. The origin of the black sunglasses dates back to an era when an eye infection epidemic broke out, leading locals to vow that if they recovered, they would cover the Buddha's eyes with gold leaf until the eyes were completely filled with gold. To maintain the image's dignified appearance and prevent the gold leaf from peeling, the abbot at the time decided to place black sunglasses on the image, which has since evolved into a unique tradition where devotees offer sunglasses to fulfill their vows to this day.
