The Kawagoe Festival began in the mid-17th century when Lord Matsudaira Nobutsuna donated festival items to the Hikawa Shrine, encouraging the townspeople to celebrate. Originally an entertainment for the shrine's deities, it was performed by ten local communities.
The float stored here, topped with the legendary Yamato Takeru no Mikoto doll, belongs to Miyashita-machi and is recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
