Phra Chao Saen Luang

Phra Chao Saen Luang is a Buddha image in the subduing Mara attitude, featuring a blend of Lanna and Chiang Saen artistic styles. It serves as the principal Buddha image in the Viharn Luang Phon Nakhon at Wat Luang, Mueang District, Phrae Province. According to historical records, it was commissioned by a ruler of Phrae in 1514 AD (B.E. 2057). Its name signifies greatness and boundless faith ("Saen" meaning hundred thousand/vast, and "Luang" meaning great). It is regarded as one of the most beautiful Buddha images in Phrae, with a serene and radiant countenance reflecting the prosperity and compassion of the Lanna Kingdom's golden age.
