Phra Upakhut Chok Bat

Phra Upakhut Chok Bat, also known as "Phra Bua Khem," represents a specific posture of Arhat Upakhut, a powerful monk from the era of Emperor Ashoka. The iconography is characterized by the figure looking up towards the sky (gazing at the sun) while one hand reaches into his alms bowl (Chok Bat). This depicts the moment he used his supernatural powers to stop the sun to finish his meal before the midday deadline. In Northern Thai and Burmese traditions, worshipping this posture is believed to bring wealth, prosperity, and abundance, as he is said to reside in a crystal palace at the "Navel of the Ocean".
