Ku Chang / The Stupa of Pu Kam Nga Khiao

Ku Chang is a significant ancient monument of the Hariphunchai Kingdom, featuring a unique cylindrical stupa that stands out from typical Lanna architecture. It is believed to enshrine the remains of "Pu Kam Nga Khiao" (The Black Elephant with Green Tusks), the powerful royal elephant of Queen Jamadevi and her sons. Legend has it that the elephant possessed divine power; wherever its tusks pointed, enemies would instantly be weakened. After its death, this stupa was built to house its remains, positioned facing upwards to contain its immense spiritual energy. Today, it houses the shrine of Chao Pho Ku Chang, revered by locals as a guardian of victory and success.
