Architecture in Lopburi is a unique blend of ancient Khmer art, Ayutthaya styles, and Western influences introduced during the reign of King Narai the Great. We see the use of stone and brick prangs, symbols of Khmer culture, alongside buildings featuring Gothic pointed arches and Renaissance rounded windows. The use of thick, high walls for load-bearing instead of columns was a European technique adapted to local materials like laterite and white-plastered bricks. Additionally, traditional Thai architecture appears in the roof structures and stuccowork decorating the pediments of various viharas and throne halls. This diversity makes Lopburi feel like an open-air museum, showcasing the evolution of craftsmanship and global cultural exchanges.
