Great Roundleaf Bat

The Great Roundleaf Bat (Hipposideros armiger), also known in Thai as the "Thosakan Leaf-nosed Bat," is the largest insectivorous bat in Thailand. Its name comes from its distinctively complex noseleaf, which resembles the face of "Thosakan," a giant character from the Ramayana epic. This bat features wide ears designed for sophisticated echolocation to hunt prey in the dark. Phu Wai Cave serves as a critical habitat for this species due to its tranquility and suitable ecosystem. Spotting these fascinating creatures (while maintaining silence and avoiding bright lights) is a thrilling highlight for nature enthusiasts visiting the cave.
