The Architecture of Khum Wichai Racha

Khum Wichai Racha is renowned for its Manila-style teak structure integrated with Gingerbread and Lanna architecture. This two-story golden teak mansion, painted in cream and green tones, is distinguished by its exquisite "Wood Fretwork" (Gingerbread style). The intricate carvings adorn the gables, eaves, balconies, and air vents above doors and windows. A notable feature is the "turned columns" at the gable peaks and delicate "rain-drop" fretwork patterns along the roofline. The roof is covered with traditional teak shingles (Paen Klet). This architectural style was highly popular among the elite and nobility during the reigns of King Rama IV to VI, heavily influenced by colonial-era designs.
