Khum Wichai Racha

Khum Vichai Raja was the residence of Phra Vichai Raja (Chao Khatti Saensiriphan), the last Phra Vichai Raja and former Treasurer of Phrae. Built between 1891-1895 within the old city walls, it is a magnificent example of Manila-style teak housing blended with Gingerbread architecture and Lanna influences. The entire structure is crafted from golden teak and adorned with intricate wood fretwork, reflecting the high status and wealth derived from the teak trade era. Historically, the house served as a sanctuary for government officials during the Shan (Ngiao) Rebellion in Phrae.
