The Uji River is a haven for elegant wild birds, their presence complementing the river's rushing waters. Unlike the captive cormorants used for fishing, these birds are free-roaming inhabitants. Grey Herons can often be spotted standing still as statues on rocks in the rapids, while Snowy Egrets hunt in the shallows near the central islands.
