Standing at 15.2 meters, this is the largest and oldest stone pagoda in Japan. Built in 1286 by the monk Eison, it was erected to offer prayers for the spirits of fish caught in the Uji River and to ensure the safety of the Uji Bridge. Located on To-no-shima Island, this Important Cultural Property is a powerful symbol of Uji’s spiritual history and resilience.
