The Lotus Cosmos: The base consists of 28 massive bronze petals (originally planned for 56). Each petal is intricately engraved with a "Map of the Universe" based on the Avatamsaka Sutra.
Symbolic Engravings: The designs depict Shakyamuni Buddha at the top, with 25 horizontal lines below representing the 25 realms of existence. This symbolizes the Buddha’s compassion reaching every dimension of the universe.
Ancient Artifact: While the main statue has been recast over time, several petals remain original from the 8th century. They are the oldest parts of the monument, showcasing master craftsmanship from the Nara period.
Massive Scale: Each petal stands 2.1 to 3 meters tall, large enough for a person to sit on comfortably.
