“Admire the exquisite craftsmanship of the entire wooden ordination hall and worship the sacred laterite Buddha image amidst the peaceful riverside of the Tha Chin estuary.”

Laem Suwannaram Temple, locally known as “Wat Laem,” is an ancient temple dating back to the early Rattanakosin period. It is located in Tha Chalom Subdistrict, Samut Sakhon Province. The temple is regarded as a cultural and artistic gem of the Tha Chalom community, reflecting the prosperity and wealth of this historic port town in the past. The atmosphere within the temple is peaceful, shady, and sacred, blending traditional Thai architecture with subtle Chinese artistic influences seen in its decorative details.

The most remarkable highlight of the temple is its ordination hall made entirely of Suphannika wood, a rare example of traditional wooden architecture that is seldom found today. The ancient wood craftsmanship is intricate and refined, demonstrating the deep faith and dedication of local fishermen in earlier times. Inside the hall stands a sacred laterite Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya posture, which has long been a spiritual anchor for the people of Tha Chalom for generations. The interior is further adorned with mural paintings and carved wooden panels that beautifully depict Buddhist stories and teachings.

The surrounding area of the temple is uniquely positioned on a cape along the Tha Chin River, offering expansive views of the wide river flowing toward the gulf. Sea breezes blowing through the area create a naturally cool and pleasant atmosphere. Visitors can observe the traditional way of life of local fishermen navigating colorful boats along the river, while enjoying the tranquility of the temple that contrasts with the lively Maha Chai market located across the river.

For photography enthusiasts, Laem Suwannaram Temple offers many captivating angles, including reflections of the wooden ordination hall on the grassy grounds and close-up details of aged wooden carvings that remain solemn and powerful despite the passage of time. Artists and historians will find this temple a valuable source of artistic and architectural heritage, while families and general travelers can stroll along the riverside, feel the breeze, and admire the rare beauty of traditional wooden temple architecture.

Visitors are warmly invited to explore Laem Suwannaram Temple to experience the spiritual essence of the Tha Chalom community, appreciate its precious wooden architectural heritage, and rejuvenate the soul with the serene riverside ambiance of this historic temple that continues to preserve the living spirit of the past.
