“This shrine is unique for housing two city pillars (old and new) within a beautifully decorated Thai-style four-gabled pavilion by the Nakhon Nayok River. It is regarded as a “Water Element Shrine,” believed to bring stability, peace, and prosperity to the city and its people.”

Chao Pho Lak Mueang Nakhon Nayok Shrine is one of the most revered spiritual centers of Nakhon Nayok Province. It has a long history dating back to the early city settlement. The original city pillar shrine once stood near the ancient city wall (old moat), but due to deterioration over time, it was later rebuilt permanently at its current riverside location.

The shrine features a Thai-style four-gabled pavilion with a prang-shaped roof, intricately decorated with traditional carvings. Inside the pavilion stand two sacred city pillars, a rare feature that distinguishes this shrine from others:

  • Southern Pillar (Old Pillar): Made of wood and dating back to the reign of King Rama V, this shorter pillar has a lotus-bud carving on its top, representing purity and enlightenment.

  • Northern Pillar (New Pillar): Constructed later in the traditional style, this newer wooden pillar also features a lotus-bud finial, symbolizing rebirth and prosperity.

Because the shrine is situated beside the Nakhon Nayok River, it is regarded as a Water Element Shrine. Locals believe it brings coolness, peace, and balance—blessings that extend to personal stability, successful careers, and family harmony for those who come to pay respects.

How to Get There
