The Buriram City Pillar Shrine is a sacred site and a center of devotion for the people of Buriram. It is believed that this area was once a resting point for King Rama I (King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke) and marks the historical origin of Buriram city.

The original shrine was small, but in 2005 a new, grand shrine was constructed, combining ancient Khmer architecture with local Thai design. The shrine is in the form of a prang (tower) with five levels adorned with intricate decorations. Inside, sacred figures including Phra Suea Mueang, the guardian deities, and Phra Song Mueang have been enshrined to protect the city.

A unique feature of the Buriram City Pillar Shrine is its two city pillars. The first pillar (tilted) is believed to have been erected during the establishment of “Mueang Pae” in the Thonburi period, while the second pillar was added when Buriram was elevated to provincial status.

Additionally, a Chinese shrine is located beside the main city pillar shrine, featuring the image of the City Pillar Deity along with Chinese gods such as Cai Xing Ye and Guan Yu, allowing Thai-Chinese devotees to pay respects in the same compound.
