“Located on the bank of the Prachinburi River, the shrine’s sacred city pillar is crafted from Chaiyaphruek wood with a beautifully carved Four-Faced Brahma at its top. The architecture follows the elegant Thai-style design standardized by the Fine Arts Department.”

The City Pillar Shrine of Prachinburi is one of the province’s most revered spiritual and cultural landmarks. It was first established in 1872 (B.E. 2415) during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), situated on the northern bank of the Prachinburi River.

The current shrine was rebuilt and restored in 1971 (B.E. 2514) under the supervision of the Fine Arts Department, following the department’s traditional architectural style. The structure features a Thai-style pavilion with a four-gabled roof topped by a prang, intricately decorated with gilded and mirrored patterns. The gable ends, “chofa,” and “naga finials” are elaborately crafted, displaying exquisite Thai craftsmanship.

The city pillar, made from Chaiyaphruek wood, is regarded as highly auspicious in Thai royal tradition. Its base is carved in the form of lotus petals, while the top is uniquely sculpted into a Four-Faced Brahma, representing wisdom, compassion, justice, and mercy. The sculpture was meticulously designed and carved by the Department of Fine Arts’ Handicraft Division, showcasing the skill of traditional Thai artisans.

The shrine’s location by the Prachinburi River is believed to bring prosperity and balance, making it a spiritually favorable site. Locals and visitors alike come to pay homage, seek blessings for stability in life and work, and invite good fortune.
