“Situated along the scenic Sakae Krang River, the shrine offers a tranquil and shady atmosphere perfect for worship and relaxation. The surrounding area features landscaped gardens, open spaces for leisure activities, and riverside viewpoints that are especially stunning during sunrise and sunset.”
The City Pillar Shrine of Uthai Thani serves as the spiritual heart of the province. Originally, the town did not have an official city pillar shrine. Later, during the tenure of Governor Sutjit Nimitkul, the shrine was constructed in front of the Provincial Hall to symbolize prosperity, stability, and the auspicious spirit of the city.
The shrine itself is designed as a traditional four-gabled Thai pavilion with intricately carved wooden details and open sides, creating an airy and elegant appearance. Inside, the sacred city pillar is beautifully carved from wood and adorned with Thai motifs representing unity, peace, and the flourishing of the province. Beyond being a spiritual site, the shrine also serves as a venue for local ceremonies and important cultural events, such as annual blessing rituals and merit-making ceremonies.
The surrounding grounds are shaded by large trees and include small gardens and fitness equipment, making it a community space where residents can both worship and relax. The shrine’s riverside location adds to its charm, allowing visitors to enjoy the peaceful flow of the Sakae Krang River while paying their respects.
Nearby, visitors will also find the Pueng Thao Gong City God Shrine, a centuries-old Chinese-style shrine located at a roundabout along the river. Together, these two shrines reflect the harmony of spiritual beliefs and cultural diversity that define the identity of Uthai Thani.
