“A monument of an important historical figure located at the central roundabout of Trang City.”
The Monument of Phraya Ratsadanupradit Mahison Phakdi stands prominently at the main roundabout of Trang City and is regarded as a symbol of the province’s prosperity. The monument was built to commemorate Phraya Ratsadanupradit Mahison Phakdi, originally named Khaw Sim Bee Na Ranong, who served as the governor of Trang during the reign of King Rama V.
Phraya Ratsada was a highly dedicated developer who initiated numerous urban development projects, such as the construction of road networks, the relocation of Trang’s city center from Kantang to its current location, and most importantly, the introduction of rubber to Thailand. He brought rubber seeds from Malaysia (then Malaya) and planted them for trial in Trang in 1899, marking a monumental beginning that eventually led rubber to become a major economic crop that brought long-standing prosperity to southern Thailand and the entire country.
His bronze statue depicts him standing elegantly in an official uniform. The monument is a highly respected landmark among Trang residents and serves as a geographical and transportation hub of the city. It is also a must-visit location for travelers who come to Trang, as a way to pay respect and acknowledge his significant contributions.
