“Experience the mystical charm of an ancient wooden ordination hall and Ayutthaya-style bell-shaped pagodas while paying respects to the legendary sacred Buddha image of Trat.”

Buppharam Temple or popularly known as Plai Khlong Temple , is the cornerstone of faith that has stood firm through more than three centuries since the late Ayutthaya period. The heart of this temple is its ancient wooden ordination hall , a rare architectural blend of Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin styles. Built entirely from solid timber, the hall features stunning murals by local artisans depicting the Buddha's life and the historical way of life in Trat. The temple grounds are shaded by majestic old trees, reflecting the simple yet profound faith of past generations.

The legend that visitors must not miss is that of Luang Pho To and the sacred Buddha images, particularly the tales of the miraculous floating Buddha discovered by locals and enshrined as the province's spiritual guardian. Furthermore, the temple's museum houses a priceless collection of ancient artifacts, especially Benjarong porcelain and glassware from past eras, showcasing the historical commercial prosperity of Trat. Paying respects here is not just about seeking blessings but also about feeling the historical connection that weaves faith into the very fabric of life.

Surrounding the ordination hall are ancient bell-shaped pagodas, displaying architectural traits directly influenced by the Ayutthaya period. Each pagoda's base shows layers of restoration mixed with original ancient bricks, narrating the transition of eras and the devotion of Trat’s citizens. For photographers and art lovers, the afternoon light filtering through the cracked brickwork and the intricate wood carvings on the gable creates a mystical and hauntingly beautiful dimension that captures the essence of antiquity.

The uniqueness of Wat Buppharam extends to its traditional Thai wooden monk dwellings, crafted with exquisite woodwork that is hard to find in modern temples. For artists and inspiration-seekers, this site is a cultural treasure trove offering insights into local architecture and harmonious space management. The hospitality of the local Buddhist community further enriches the experience, making a visit here more than just sightseeing it is a journey back to explore one's own roots.

Please come and join this pilgrimage to experience the beauty that time cannot erase, at this temple which serves as the spiritual cradle of the people of Trat.
