“A golden Phra Borommathat Chedi inspired by the Shwedagon Pagoda, surrounded by 16 subsidiary stupas, and the renowned Luang Pho Thanjai Hall, famous for prayers believed to be granted swiftly.”
Wat Phra Borommathat Ban Tak is an ancient temple located in the area of the old Tak city. It is believed to have been established during the Sukhothai period and has long served as a major spiritual center of Tak Province.
Phra Borommathat Chedi The main chedi is a Mon-style golden stupa, elegantly designed and modeled after Myanmar’s Shwedagon Pagoda. According to legend, King Taksin the Great once paid homage here before leading his army to reclaim Siam’s independence. Surrounding the main chedi are 16 smaller stupas, symbolizing auspicious beliefs.
Luang Pho Thanjai (Phra Chao Thanjai) This revered Buddha image in the subduing Mara posture is over 200 years old and is believed to have been completed within a single day. Devotees pray for success in fortune, career, and health, believing that wishes are fulfilled quickly. Offerings commonly used for merit-making include bananas, pomelos, and local fruits.
Art and History The temple also features exquisitely carved wooden viharns in traditional Lanna style, along with a museum displaying ancient artifacts that reflect the historical prosperity of Tak in the past.
