“Marvel at the magnificent Lanna-style ordination hall and its rare 108 murals depicting the life of Buddha. Pay homage to "Phra Saeng," a sacred Buddha image revered by the community, and visit the Luang Pu Chan Museum, which displays his relics and belongings in a serene and architecturally significant setting.”

Wat Si Thep Pradittaram, originally known as Wat Si Khun Mueang, is a venerable sanctuary that embodies the profound history and spiritual essence of Nakhon Phanom. Established around 1859, the temple underwent a period of abandonment before being revitalized by the revered Luang Pu Chan (Phra Thep Sitthacharn), a distinguished master of the Vipassana meditation lineage. Under his leadership, the temple was transformed from a quiet ruin into a thriving center for Buddhist studies and a pillar of the local community, attracting devotees from across the Mekong region who sought his wisdom and blessings.

The architectural grandeur of the temple is centered around its magnificent Ubosot (Ordination Hall), which showcases exquisite Lan Xang-style architecture. The exterior is adorned with intricate high-relief stucco work depicting Buddhist narratives, a rare artistic feat in the region. Inside, the walls are covered with 108 mural paintings illustrating the life of the Buddha, executed with vibrant colors and remarkable detail to serve as a visual dharma lesson for visitors. This exceptional preservation of cultural heritage led the temple to be honored with the Architectural Conservation Award from the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage.

At the heart of the temple’s sanctity lies "Phra Saeng," a priceless bronze Buddha image in the Maravijaya posture. Legend has it that Phra Saeng was cast during the same period as the famous Phra Suk, Phra Soem, and Phra Sai images of Nong Khai, representing a sacred brotherhood of Lan Xang art. Furthermore, the temple grounds house the Luang Pu Chan Memorial Museum, a pagoda-shaped structure where his relics and personal belongings are displayed. Surrounded by lush, ancient trees, the temple offers a serene atmosphere that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the peaceful heritage and timeless faith of the Mekong riverside.
