Wat Chai Na has a long and significant history, evidenced by the archaeological remains of the Maha-Ut Ordination Hall, which was constructed according to religious beliefs of the Ayutthaya era. As time passed, the temple eventually fell into abandonment. Later, Venerable Buddhadasa Bhikkhu revitalized the site and established it as “Suan Phutthatham Chai Na Vipassana Meditation Center”, with the aim of creating a place for Dharma dissemination and mental cultivation within Nakhon Si Thammarat city.

The atmosphere within the temple grounds is particularly serene and shaded by large trees and thoughtfully arranged meditation gardens, reflecting the principle of “simple living, high thinking.” The temple’s buildings emphasize functionality over ornamentation, including a large meditation hall and residential quarters for practitioners, clearly separated to maintain tranquility. Additionally, Wat Chai Na is home to the Thai Mae Chee Institute, which serves as an important center for education and spiritual practice for Buddhist nuns in the region.

Today, Wat Chai Na is not only a cultural heritage site attracting visitors interested in its ancient ordination hall, but also a destination for spiritual seekers and pilgrims from around the world who come to stay and engage in serious Vipassana meditation practice.a

• By Private Car: From Nakhon Si Thammarat city center, drive along Ratchadamnoen Road. At the Pratu Chaiyasit intersection, turn onto Phatthanakan Thung Prang Road. Continue for approximately 1–2 kilometers; the temple will be on the right-hand side. Parking is available within the temple grounds.

• By Public Transport: Take a songthaew on the “Stadium – Hua Thanon” route (blue vehicles) and get off near the Pratu Chaiyasit intersection. From there, take a motorcycle taxi or a local route that travels directly along Phatthanakan Thung Prang Road.

• As this is an active meditation center emphasizing silence and mindfulness, visitors should speak softly and dress modestly (preferably in white or light-colored clothing) to avoid disturbing practitioners.

• Those interested in participating in meditation retreats are advised to contact the temple in advance or inquire about Vipassana course schedules, which are held periodically throughout the year.
