“The Tha Lat Open Zoo, where children and families can observe animals up close such as deer, muntjac, and various bird species, along with a tranquil Buddhist Park area for spiritual relaxation.”
Somdet Phra Srinagarindra 84 Park, locally known as “Thung Tha Lat,” is a large public park located in the heart of Nakhon Si Thammarat, covering an area of more than 1,257 rai. During the reign of King Rama V, this area was once part of Suan Ratcharuedee, a recreational and ceremonial ground of the city. In 1984, the provincial administration developed the land into a public park to honor Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, the Royal Grandmother, on the auspicious occasion of her 84th birthday—giving the park its present name.
The park features a lush and natural landscape, highlighted by a large central lake that serves both as a recreational focal point and an important ecological area. Tall trees line the walking paths, providing shade throughout the park and creating a pleasant environment for jogging, walking, cycling, and family activities. The park is especially lively in the early morning and late afternoon when residents come to exercise in the cool breeze. The internal pathways are designed with both short and long routes, making them suitable for visitors of all ages.
One of the park’s key attractions is the Tha Lat Open Zoo, a small open-air zoo with free admission. The zoo showcases a variety of animals such as deer, muntjac, serow, and native bird species, all kept in a natural and shaded environment. It is an ideal destination for children and families to learn about wildlife and nature through close-up observation.
In addition, the park includes a Buddhist Park (Phutthaphum) area designed for quiet walks, meditation, and spiritual reflection amid a peaceful atmosphere. Within the park grounds is also the Nakhon Si Thammarat City Museum, which serves as a cultural learning center presenting the history, traditions, and way of life of the local community from past to present. These elements make the park not only a place for relaxation but also an important educational space for the city.
With its vast open space, comprehensive facilities, and welcoming atmosphere for all age groups, Somdet Phra Srinagarindra 84 Park is regarded as a central hub for outdoor recreation and daily life in Nakhon Si Thammarat, as well as a popular destination for visitors seeking a relaxing and nature-filled urban experience.
