“Marvel at the grandeur of Nan Dad Fah, the seventh tier where water cascades dramatically from a steep cliff, explore the historic V.P.R. royal inscription, and relax in natural pools surrounded by lush tropical rainforest”
Karom Waterfall is a natural attraction originating from the Nakhon Si Thammarat mountain range, where streams flow down wide rock formations, forming a stunning series of 19 waterfall tiers. The name is believed to derive from “Khao Hrom,” a traditional local name for the surrounding mountain and stream. The waterfall holds great historical importance, having served as a royal retreat for several Thai kings and members of the royal family.
The most iconic section is the seventh tier known as Nan Dad Fah, regarded as the symbol of Namtok Karom. On the cliff face at this level is a royal monogram inscription of King Vajiravudh (King Rama VI), carved during his visit in 1917. Here, water plunges from a cliff with an incline of approximately 45 degrees into a large pool below.
The national park has developed shaded and well-maintained nature trails lined with diverse forest vegetation. Large trees such as Lumpho and golden teak provide natural shade, keeping the area cool throughout the day. The seven easily accessible tiers include Nan Thurian, Nan Chong Sai, Nan Phai, Nan Nam Rang, Nan Phueng, Nan Toei, and Nan Dad Fah, each featuring clear and refreshing pools suitable for swimming and family relaxation.
During the rainy season, the waterfall spreads across broad rock faces, creating a powerful and dramatic scene. In the dry season, the water becomes crystal clear, revealing rock beds and schools of freshwater fish in the natural pools. The surrounding rainforest remains ecologically rich, helping preserve the biodiversity of Khao Luang.
Facilities at the park headquarters include parking areas, food stalls, and a visitor information center. Several small bridges crossing the stream offer popular photo spots, capturing both cascading water and dense greenery in a single frame. With its combination of natural beauty and deep historical value, Namtok Karom offers a rewarding experience beyond scenic views alone.
