“Admire the elegance of Southern Thai applied architecture while strolling through a tranquil Somrom orchard surrounded by the serene atmosphere of the Khao Luang mountain range.”

Phra Tamnak Mueang Nakhon is a place filled with pride and deep affection from the people of Nakhon Si Thammarat. It was built by Mr. Sampan Thongsamak, former Minister of Education, and his family on behalf of the local people, and humbly presented as a royal guesthouse and working residence for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great (Rama IX) and members of the Royal Family.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn officially presided over the opening ceremony of the royal residence on August 17, 1998. The building showcases Southern Thai applied architecture, a harmonious blend of traditional Central Thai and Southern Thai architectural styles.

One of the most distinctive features of this architectural design is its perfect adaptation to the tropical climate and surrounding natural environment. The royal residence is encircled by a traditional Somrom orchard, a mixed-fruit farming system unique to southern Thailand. The orchard is home to a variety of local fruits such as mangosteen, durian, rambutan, and longkong, all carefully maintained.

In addition to serving as a royal working residence, Phra Tamnak Mueang Nakhon is now open to the public for educational visits, allowing visitors to learn about royal initiatives and sustainable agriculture inspired by the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy. The atmosphere within the compound is peaceful, lush, and refreshed by pure air from the Khao Luang mountain range.

The royal residence is located near Wat Khao Khun Phanom, an important historical and cultural landmark of Phrom Khiri District. Together, these sites reflect the area’s deep connection to religion, history, and Thai culture. Walking through the orchard and surrounding grounds offers visitors a sense of simplicity, grace, and the profound bond between the monarchy and the local people.

Phra Tamnak Mueang Nakhon is not only a place of historical significance but also a serene destination that beautifully embodies the spirit and identity of Nakhon Si Thammarat.
