“Relax along the clear freshwater stream and enjoy delicious local cuisine by the river in a shady and peaceful atmosphere.”
Kaeng Khlong Klai is a river originating from the Luang Mountain Range, flowing through diverse landscapes before reaching Tha Sala District. In the Tha Sala area, Khlong Klai has become a beloved center for relaxation and leisure, cherished by local residents. The water here is remarkably clear and refreshingly cool throughout the year, as it flows from a well-preserved upstream forest.
Along the riverbanks, numerous riverside restaurants can be found, most of which offer seating close to the water. The charm of visiting lies in enjoying spicy southern Thai dishes while dipping one’s feet into the gently flowing clear stream. Naturally formed rocks create small rapids, producing soft flowing sounds that enhance the sense of relaxation.
The riverbanks of Tha Sala are also home to well-known fruit orchards, especially durian and mangosteen. Visitors often come during weekends to escape the heat and reconnect with nature. Both sides of the river remain lush and green, with fresh, clean air.
In addition to restaurants, there are cozy homestays and small resorts located along the river. In some areas, visitors may still observe traditional fishing practices, a rare sight today. The water level is generally shallow, making it suitable and safe for children to play.
During certain seasons, local riverside festivals are held, reflecting the deep connection between the community and Khlong Klai. This river also supports agricultural activities, contributing to the fertility of the surrounding land. Bridges across the river serve as scenic viewpoints, offering peaceful views of the winding waterway.
A visit to Kaeng Khlong Klai in Tha Sala provides a warm, friendly atmosphere and an authentic glimpse into local life. The sounds of birds, breeze, and flowing water create a perfectly relaxing environment. Today, Khlong Klai has evolved into an eco-tourism destination, generating income for the community while beautifully blending nature, food, and local lifestyle in one place.
