“A dragon-shaped central island featuring a towering giant dragon statue that reflects Pak Nam Pho’s identity, combined with standard jogging and cycling lanes in a peaceful and shady lakeside atmosphere”

Uthayan Sawan Park has its origins in the development of a vast natural wetland covering over 314 rai, originally known as Nong Som Bun. This public body of water is situated in the heart of the Nakhon Sawan Municipality. Later, in 1971, the government and local authorities collaborated to renovate the area for use as a recreational and exercise facility. The project involved dredging the swamp and landfilling to create a public park with a strong emphasis on cleanliness and orderliness, eventually earning national awards for excellence as an outstanding public park. The construction was supported by the urban expansion of Pak Nam Pho, which necessitated a large green space to accommodate the growing population.

The most iconic landmark of the park is the 4-rai artificial island, which was designed in the shape of a dragon when viewed from an aerial perspective. Located on the island is the majestic Heaven Dragon Sculpture, which spouts water into the reservoir. The dragon is crafted with realistic proportions and length according to Chinese mythology, surrounded by four smaller dragon statues. Around the island, several rest pavilions and Chinese-style entrance gates were constructed. These architectural elements represent the Thai-Chinese community, which played a vital role in the establishment of Nakhon Sawan city, making it a popular spot for tourists to walk across the bridge to photograph and admire the dragon’s beauty up close.

The area surrounding the reservoir has been developed into a 3.2-kilometer running track and bicycle lane, which is the standard distance for exercise. The entire path is well-paved and shaded by large trees throughout. Inside the park, functional zones are clearly divided, including a large fountain plaza, botanical gardens, multi-purpose sports courts, a standardized playground, and a designated zone for skateboarding. Additionally, there are swan paddle boat rentals available for visitors to enjoy the scenery from the water, providing a unique viewpoint of the Heaven Dragon sculpture and the park's surroundings.

The management of Uthayan Sawan Park emphasizes convenience and safety, with adequate lighting provided along the running tracks during the evening. Food vendor zones and fish food stations at the lakeside piers are organized systematically. At the main entrance, there is a plaza enshrining a Buddha image for the public to pay respects before entering the recreational zones. With its combination of grand sculptures, sports facilities, and expansive water vistas, Uthayan Sawan Park stands as the most important recreational landmark of Nakhon Sawan Province, accessible to people of all ages.
