“The monastery features an iron chain bridge built by Thangtong Gyalpo and offers a scenic view of the two rivers merging; visitors must walk about 100 meters from the parking or viewpoint to reach the bridge.”
Tachog Lhakhang (Tamchoe Monastery) was built in the 15th century by Lama Thangtong Gyalpo, a master of ancient engineering and iron chain bridges. The monastery sits atop Asha Hill on the left bank where the Paro Chhu and Thimphu Chhu rivers meet.
The original iron chain bridge was washed away by floods in 1969, and the current bridge was reconstructed in 2005 following the original design. Visitors need to walk approximately 100 meters from the parking area or viewpoint to reach the bridge. The monastery features historic architecture and religious structures, making it a significant cultural and spiritual site in Bhutan.
How to Get There
Visitors can drive or ride motorcycles from Paro town toward Asha Hill. From the parking area or viewpoint, a 100-meter walk is required to reach the iron chain bridge and the monastery.
