“The charm of a warm and friendly Muslimcommunity, stunning sunsetviews, and famous local agricultural products such as TorpedoWatermelon.”

Ko Sukorn, also locally and occasionally known as PigIsland, is a large island located in the Andaman Sea within Palian District, Trang Province. Despite its nickname, the island’s population of approximately 2,500–3,000 residents is almost entirely Muslim. As a result, daily life on the island follows Islamic principles and traditions, with no pig or dog farming on the island.

Although KoSukorn is located only about 3 kilometers from the mainland, it offers a travel experience distinctly different from typical tourist islands. Visitors can closely experience the communitylifestyle, as most residents work as small-scale fishermen, rubber farmers, and agricultural growers. Beyond the sea, much of the island is covered with rice fields and fruit gardens, creating a diverse and refreshing landscape. The friendliness, honesty, and hospitality of the locals are widely praised, making travelers feel safe and welcome throughout their stay.

One of the island’s most notable highlights is its agricultural produce, especially the famous TorpedoWatermelon. This unique watermelon variety is long and cylindrical in shape, with a very sweet and juicy taste. Some villagers grow watermelons on sandy coastal land near the sea, an area often referred to as TangMoBeach. Visitors should not miss the opportunity to taste this local specialty. In addition, KoSukorn is well known for its particularly beautiful sunsets, with the best viewing period typically between November and early April.

Popular activities on the island include renting a motorcycle or bicycle to explore the island at a relaxed pace, visiting local villages, and sampling traditional foods influenced by Chinese and Malaysian cuisine, such as dim sum and freshly caught seafood from local fishing boats. KoSukorn also serves as a convenient starting point for renting boats to enjoy snorkeling or visiting nearby islands such as KoLaoLiang and KoTakieng.
