Roi Et City Pillar Shrine is the spiritual center of Roi Et Province and is closely linked to the city’s historical foundation. Originally, the shrine was a small wooden structure located in the old town area before being extensively renovated into the elegant traditional Thai-style pavilion (Chaturamuk pavilion) seen today. The building features refined Thai architectural craftsmanship with intricate woodwork and layered roofing. Inside is the sacred “city pillar,” which is considered the spiritual heart of the site. Locals believe it is the dwelling place of the city guardian spirit (“Chao Pho Lak Mueang”) who protects the city, bringing peace, prosperity, and safety to its people.

In terms of beliefs, visitors commonly come to pay respect and pray for success in life, career advancement, financial stability, and future prosperity. Offerings typically include flowers, incense, candles, garlands, and gold leaf as acts of merit-making and blessings. Traditional vows and vow fulfillment practices are also part of long-standing local customs.The surrounding area is located on an island in Bueng Phlan Chai, a major recreational and landmark area of the city. This gives the shrine a peaceful, green, and scenic atmosphere, making it ideal for relaxation, walking, and photography, especially during sunrise and sunset when the natural lighting is most beautiful. It is also located near Ho Khot 101, allowing visitors to conveniently explore nearby attractions in the same area.

• By Car: Drive toward Bueng Phlan Chai area. Once you reach Suriya Dech Bamrung Road or the road surrounding the lake, you will see a large public park area. Follow the signs to “Bueng Phlan Chai.” After that, you can park at designated parking areas around the lake and walk across the bridge to the island where the City Pillar Shrine is located.

• Visit in the morning or evening for cooler weather and beautiful natural lighting.

• After paying respect at the City Pillar Shrine, you can continue walking to visit “Ho Khot 101” nearby.

• Dress modestly, as this is a sacred place.
