“Isan Navel landmark, a middle-of-the-lake photo spot for sunset views, lakeside local restaurants, and pedal boat activities.”

Bueng Kui is a large water body located in Kosum Phisai District, Maha Sarakham Province. It serves multiple purposes, including irrigation, ecosystem support, and local tourism, and is situated in the lowland area of the Khorat Plateau. This makes it an important reservoir for storing water during the rainy season and distributing it during the dry season. The area is characterized by a large freshwater lake surrounded by trees and green spaces, which help create a pleasant atmosphere and reduce the surrounding temperature. It is also a habitat for native aquatic species, fish, and seasonal waterbirds that come to feed and live in the area.Bueng Kui also plays a significant role in the local community’s economy and way of life. It is used for agriculture, local fishing, and lakeside commerce, generating income through tourism and related services.

A key highlight of Bueng Kui is the “Isan Navel,” a symbolic marker representing the geographic center of Northeastern Thailand. The area has been developed with walkways that allow visitors to access the middle-of-the-lake photo point. Tourists often visit in the evening to enjoy the sunset reflecting over the water. The surrounding area has been developed into roads for walking, running, and cycling, making it a popular recreational and exercise space for locals. There are also water activities such as pedal boats and water cycling, as well as local restaurants serving grilled fish, papaya salad, and other Isan dishes along the lakeside.

During important festivals such as Loy Krathong and Songkran, Bueng Kui is often used as a main event venue for the district, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.Bueng Kui is also commonly connected with nearby attractions such as Wang Ko Samphasi National Forest Park, allowing visitors to plan a one-day trip to experience both nature and local community lifestyle.
