“The ordination hall sits atop a large rock by the Mekong River, offering panoramic views of Laos. Wide rocky grounds, cool breezes year-round, and a calm, peaceful atmosphere make it ideal for relaxation.”

Wat Sawang Arom, also called Wat Tham Srithon is a distinctive temple in northeastern Thailand, set on large natural

rock formations along the Mekong River.

Landscape and Setting

The temple area features wide stone terraces mixed with natural rock formations and scattered trees, creating diverse

viewpoints for sightseeing, photography, and relaxation. Some areas include safe cliffside walking paths.

Ordination Hall on the Rock

The main highlight is the ordination hall built on a massive rock. Visitors must climb stairs to reach it, where they can pay

respect to the Buddha image while enjoying unobstructed panoramic river views in a tranquil setting.

Caves and Nature Paths

There are small caves believed to have been meditation spots for monks in the past, along with shaded walking paths along

the rocks, ideal for quiet reflection.

Cultural and Spiritual Significance

The temple is connected to the Thai folklore tale of Sri Thanon–Manohra, represented through statues within the temple

grounds, reflecting local beliefs and traditions.

Community Role

Beyond tourism, the temple serves as a spiritual center for the Pak Khat community, hosting religious ceremonies, festivals,

and local merit-making events.
