“A limestone peak offering 360-degree views of Satun, mangroves, and Malaysia. It is a key geological site within the Satun UNESCO Global Geopark.”

Khao To Yong Kong, widely recognized as the "Khao To Yong Kong Viewpoint," is a massive limestone monadnock rising prominently in the heart of Satun’s municipal area. Geologically, it is a significant part of the Ordovician limestone group, dating back over 450 million years. This hill is far more than just a recreational spot; it serves as a vital component of the Satun UNESCO Global Geopark. The site contains critical paleontological evidence, including fossils of ancient nautiloids and malacostracans, attracting geologists and eco-tourists who come to study the intricate rock layers sculpted by millions of years of erosion into unique natural formations.

The ascent to the summit features a combination of sturdy concrete stairs and steeper paths that follow the natural contours of the limestone terrain, spanning approximately 300 to 400 meters. Although the distance is relatively short, the incline reaches nearly 45 degrees in certain sections, demanding a fair amount of physical exertion. Along the trail, visitors are immersed in the biodiversity of a limestone forest, encountering resilient endemic flora that clings to the rock faces and local wildlife such as long-tailed macaques and various bird species. At the base of the hill sits the To Yong Kong Shrine, a sacred site deeply revered by the locals for generations, symbolizing the spiritual connection between the community and the ancestral guardians of the land.

Reaching the peak at approximately 150 meters above sea level reveals a breathtaking panoramic vista. From this vantage point, one can observe the organized urban planning of Satun city, the winding Mambang Canal slicing through lush mangrove wetlands, and the majestic Sankalakhiri Range—the natural border separating Thailand from Perlis, Malaysia. On clear days, the peaks of the Malaysian mountains are vividly visible across the horizon. The sunset experience here is an absolute highlight, as the golden hour light reflects off the mangroves and water surfaces, creating a serene and indescribably beautiful atmosphere that captures the essence of Satun’s natural heritage.
