“A private island with limited visitor access, featuring pure white sand beaches, dramatic limestone cliffs for rock climbing, and crystal-clear seawater ideal for snorkeling.”

Koh Lao Liang actually consists of two nearby islands: Koh Lao Liang Nai and Koh Lao Liang Nok, located within Mu Ko Phetra National Park. Although geographically part of Kantang District, most travelers access the islands via piers in Palian District or Kantang District.

The island is especially distinguished by its dramatic limestone cliffs rising directly from the sea, contrasting beautifully with fine white sand beaches and exceptionally clear turquoise water, a signature of the Trang Sea. Koh Lao Liang is managed under a conservation-based tourism concession, meaning the number of visitors allowed to stay overnight is strictly limited to preserve the island’s natural environment and sense of privacy.

Activities on Koh Lao Liang include

  • Snorkeling: Shallow coral reefs around the island remain highly intact, especially on the sheltered side of the island.
  • Rock Climbing: The limestone cliffs are internationally recognized and attract climbers from both Thailand and abroad.
  • Kayaking and Relaxation: Kayaking around the island or simply relaxing on the quiet, pristine beach.

Accommodation on the island is provided in the form of eco-friendly permanent tents, offering comfort while blending with nature. Most visitors stay through all-inclusive packages that cover accommodation, meals, and activities. The island is closed during the monsoon season, typically from May to October, allowing the ecosystem time to recover.

How to Get There

Opening Period:

  • Open seasonally during the tourist season, approximately November – May.
