“Prasat Mae Bun Tawan East is a Baphuon-style Hindu temple of the Shaivite sect, built in the late 15th century during the reign of King Rajendravarman II”

Prasat Mae Bun Tawan East It is often likened to a hilltop shrine, as the three-tiered structure rises to a height_ of 28 meters from the ground to the top of the central tower. The surrounding wall measures 121 meters wide and 126 meters long, while the lower base of the temple is 104 meters wide and 108 meters long. The uppermost level features five towers built on a single platform, and the central lintel depicts Kamalakshmi elephants on both sides of the goddess Lakshmi, with their trunks raised and intertwined.

This temple still preserves the beauty and intricate detail of ancient Khmer architecture, allowing visitors to experience the grandeur and delicacy of stone temple art. It is also an ideal location for study, historical research, and photography, particularly from elevated viewpoints that capture the details of the towers and lintels clearly.

In addition, the temple offers a unique glimpse into the spiritual and cultural life of the Khmer empire. Visitors can explore the surrounding courtyards and walk along the ancient stone pathways, gaining a sense of the scale and layout of the original complex. Seasonal visits during the dry season, from November to April, provide the best opportunity to enjoy the serene atmosphere and clear views of the surrounding landscape. The combination of historical significance, architectural splendor, and scenic setting makes Prasat Mae Bun Tawan East not only a fascinating heritage site but also a peaceful retreat for travelers seeking both education and inspiration.
