Khao Takiab is a small hill located at the southern end of Hua Hin Beach, situated approximately 7 kilometers from Hua Hin town center. The name "Khao Takiab" (Chopstick Hill) comes from the hill's appearance, resembling a pair of chopsticks (Khao Kalok and Khao Noi). It is a tourist destination of both natural and religious significance, as there is a paved road leading to the summit, which houses the temple and the viewpoint. At the base of the hill is a long beach that remains peaceful and ideal for relaxation. Access is convenient, and it is one of the key landmarks attracting tourists to Hua Hin.

The most distinctive feature of Khao Takiab is Wat Khao Takiab (or Wat Khiri Mas), the temple perched on the hilltop, which offers a serene atmosphere and spectacular views. The temple enshrines a huge, gleaming golden standing Buddha image (Pang Ham Samut) that faces out towards the sea. Another unique feature is the population of monkeys that live on the slopes of the hill and around the temple area. Visitors must be particularly cautious of the monkeys regarding personal belongings, but it offers an interesting natural experience. The viewpoint area at the top provides a panoramic vista of the Hua Hin coastline and the Gulf of Thailand.

Khao Takiab can be visited all year round, especially during early morning and late afternoon when the weather is pleasant and the light is beautiful. The overall atmosphere is religiously serene near the temple, but lively at the base along the beach and restaurants. The main activities include paying homage to the Buddha image and sacred objects at the temple, taking photos of the landscape from the elevated viewpoint, and strolling or swimming at the beach below. Care must be taken when ascending and descending the hill due to steep slopes and the presence of monkeys along the path. Viewing the scenery from the hilltop is an impressive experience that offers a different perspective on the beauty of Hua Hin.

Khao Takiab is highly appealing to photographers who desire elevated views of the city and sea, especially photos of the sunrise over the Gulf of Thailand. Couples often enjoy walking along the beach below and ascending the hill together for the view. Families can visit the temple and enjoy the scenery, however, children must be carefully watched and kept away from the monkey troops. At the base of the hill, there are famous seafood restaurants and plenty of accommodation options, making it convenient for overnight stays or dining stops.

• Drive along Phetkasem Road (Route 4) heading south. Upon reaching Hua Hin, turn onto the beach road towards Khao Takiab. A paved road leads up to the hilltop.

Songthaew:

• Green Songthaews (minibuses) run along the Hua Hin–Khao Takiab route from Hua Hin town center.

Taxi/Motorcycle Taxi:

• Easily hired from Hua Hin town center; simply state "Khao Takiab" as your destination.

Best Time to Visit:

• Early morning (before 7:00 AM) to watch the sunrise, and late afternoon (after 4:00 PM) to avoid the intense heat.

Attire:

• If visiting the temple, dress respectfully and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Monkeys:

• Do not feed the monkeys and be careful not to carry items that might tempt them, such as plastic bags, food, and loose accessories.

Photography:

• The best photo spot is the temple courtyard overlooking the entire beach.
