Tao Dam Waterfall is located in Khlong Wang Chao National Park, Kamphaeng Phet Province. It is one of the most scenic and ecologically important areas in Northern Thailand.

Geography and Nature

The surrounding area is filled with lush forests, black shale mountains, and natural streams. It serves as a habitat for small wildlife, various birds, and rare plant species, providing visitors with a peaceful forest atmosphere and the soothing sound of flowing water.

Waterfall Features

The waterfall originates from the Sop Khun Mak Stream, flowing through Khao Tao Dam, forming dark green plunge pools resembling a giant black turtle. The waterfall has year-round water flow and consists of 3 large tiers:

  • Top Tier (Tier 3): About 270 m high, plunging vertically from black shale cliffs, ideal for photography and panoramic forest views.

  • Middle Tier (Tier 2): Located 150–200 m from the top tier, featuring sloping terrain and plunge pools, perfect for swimming and relaxing.

  • Bottom Tier (Tier 1): Located 100 m from the middle tier, about 20 m high, requiring a short forest trek to access.

How to Get There

By Private Car:

  • From Kamphaeng Phet city, drive along Highway 1 (Phahonyothin Road) toward Khlong Khlung District
  • At Khlong Khlung junction, turn left onto Highway 1117 (Khlong Khlung–Khlong Lan)
  • Follow the signs to Khlong Wang Chao National Park until reaching Ban Lo Ko
  • From Ban Lo Ko, drive to the end of the road at the bamboo forest, then walk down a steep 500 m trail to reach the waterfall

Note: In the rainy season, a 4WD vehicle is recommended.

By Public Transport / Local Vehicles:

  • From Kamphaeng Phet city, take a minibus or shared van to Khlong Lan District
  • Transfer to a motorbike taxi or local vehicle to Ban Lo Ko
  • Walk 500 m down a steep trail through the bamboo forest to reach Tao Dam Waterfall
