“Experience a seaside-like atmosphere at the large reservoir above Ubolratana Dam while enjoying the stunning views of the Phu Phan Kham mountain range as a backdrop and having fun with water activities such as rafting and playing with inflatable water toys.”
Bang Saen 2 and Hin Poeng Beach are among the most famous water-based tourist destinations in Khon Kaen province, earning the nickname "the freshwater sea of Isaan." This is due to their geographical features, which consist of a vast, seemingly endless bay resembling a seaside beach. The surrounding atmosphere is enveloped by the lush greenery of the majestic Phu Phan Kham mountain range as a stunning backdrop. Visitors can enjoy the cool breeze blowing across the water, providing a refreshing and relaxing escape from work.
This area is designed for true relaxation. A key highlight is the numerous restaurants located along the beach, each built on bamboo rafts and thatched huts extending into the water, allowing tourists to dine amidst a natural setting. Must-try dishes include spicy Isaan cuisine made with fresh fish from the reservoir, such as fried catfish with garlic, salt-grilled fish, or flavorful freshwater fish tom yum soup, as well as signature dishes like som tum (papaya salad) and grilled chicken. For thrill-seekers, Bang Saen 2 offers a variety of water activities, including renting inner tubes to float and play with friends, exciting banana boat rides, or jet skiing to explore the surrounding area. Waterfront Area
Besides the daytime fun, a short distance away is Hin Pheng Beach, a spot with uniquely shaped rock formations arranged in a natural, orderly fashion. It's slightly quieter than Bang Saen 2, ideal for those seeking meditation or a quiet read while enjoying the golden sunset reflecting on the sparkling water – considered one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Khon Kaen province. The friendliness of the locals and the systematic management make Bang Saen 2 not only a relaxing retreat for locals but also a significant landmark welcoming tourists from all over the country to experience the charm of the Isaan coast year-round.
