“The old Sim (ordination hall), built in 1916, features a rare architectural style that blends local vernacular art with French influences.”
How to Get There
- By Car: From Mukdahan city center, take Highway 212 (Mukdahan–That Phanom) heading toward Wanon Yai District for about 20 kilometers. Then turn right onto Highway 2030 toward Wanon Yai District and continue driving until reaching the Mekong River area. The temple is located near the river.
Travel Tips
- It is recommended to visit in the early morning or late afternoon when the natural light is best for photography, especially for capturing the ancient Sim and the Mekong riverside atmosphere.
- Avoid visiting during midday to early afternoon, as the area is quite open and the sun can be intense, making it less comfortable to walk around.
- Dress modestly and appropriately, as this is a sacred religious site with active ceremonial areas.
- If visiting during major Buddhist festivals such as the end of Buddhist Lent (Ok Phansa), you can experience local traditions and cultural celebrations more vividly.
- It is also recommended to allocate extra time to walk around the temple grounds and the Mekong riverside, as there are several peaceful viewpoints ideal for relaxation and photography.
