“An ancient teak temple on a hill by the Mekong River on the Chiang Khong-Huay Xai border, over 200 years old.”
Wat Jom Khao Manilat is an ancient temple of great importance to the people of Huay Xai and a key symbol of Bokeo Province. It was built around 1880 entirely from teak wood, which reflects the incredible craftsmanship of that era. Situated on a hilltop, the temple offers a superb viewpoint.
As you walk up the stairs to the temple, you can feel the peaceful and serene atmosphere from the surrounding trees. The viharn (assembly hall) is made entirely of teak, featuring delicate and beautiful carvings. Inside, various Buddha statues are enshrined for locals and tourists to pay their respects.
What makes this temple so popular is the magnificent view from its courtyard. You can see a wide-angle view of the town of Huay Xai below and the winding Mekong River in front. It is an ideal spot for photography and for relaxing while watching the sunrise or sunset.
