“Ride the scenic chairlift to one of Sapporo’s best panoramic viewpoints overlooking the entire city.”

Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium is a legendary landmark in Sapporo and a major venue from the 1972 Winter Olympics, where the Large Hill ski jumping competitions took place. First built in 1931 by Kishichiro Okura and extensively upgraded for the Games, the stadium remains active today as a training ground for athletes and a host venue for international competitions such as the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup. The jump is classified as a Large Hill with a K-Point of 123 meters and a Hill Size of 137 meters, giving visitors technical insight into the scale used in professional ski jumping.

A scenic chairlift (with separate admission) brings visitors up to the observatory, positioned 307 meters above sea level. From the summit, the view spans central Sapporo—Odori Park, JR Tower, and the Ishikari Plain are all clearly visible. Peering down the steep in-run slope provides a dramatic sense of height_ and speed, mirroring what athletes experience.

At the base of the hill, the Sapporo Olympic Museum (also requiring a separate ticket) offers engaging Olympic history exhibits and interactive sport simulators such as virtual ski jumping, cross-country skiing, and bobsledding. Nearby, the Ōkurayama Crystal House features an elegant French restaurant using local Hokkaido ingredients, alongside souvenir shops and comfortable rest spaces. Overall, the stadium combines Olympic heritage, scenic beauty, and hands-on activities, making it an essential stop for visitors of all ages.

How to Get There
  • Take the subway to Maruyama Koen Station, then transfer to the Kuramaru-go Okurayama Line bus to reach the stadium entrance. The bus ride is short and convenient, or visitors may opt for a taxi directly from the station, taking about 10 minutes. Driving is also possible, with on-site parking available.

Travel Tips
  • Visit on a clear day for the best visibility, and expect colder temperatures at the summit due to elevation. Winter visitors should wear proper non-slip shoes. Consider purchasing a combination ticket for better value if planning to visit both the chairlift and museum. Summer evenings offer excellent night views with extended operating hours.

Admission Fee:

  • Separate fees apply for the chairlift ride and the Sapporo Olympic Museum. Combination tickets are commonly available at a discounted rate.

Opening Time:

  • Generally open daily. Standard hours are 9:00–17:00 in winter, and extended hours such as 8:30–20:30 during summer for night viewing.
