“Neon-lit streets, Ramen Alley, Sapporo Parfait culture, Norbesa rooftop Ferris wheel, and Susukino Ice World along Ekimae-dori during the Snow Festival.”

Susukino is a bustling entertainment and nightlife district that first emerged as a licensed red-light area during the early Meiji period, centralizing Sapporo’s entertainment trade. Over time, it evolved into a modern hotspot for evening activities, dining, and shopping.

The area features countless bars, clubs, karaoke boxes, and izakayas (Japanese pubs), all illuminated by bright neon lights, including the iconic Nikka Whisky sign. Food lovers can explore the narrow lanes of Ramen Alley (Ganso Ramen Yokochō and Shin Ramen Yokochō) serving Sapporo’s famous miso ramen, or enjoy fresh seafood, Hokkaido-style soup curry, and Jingisukan (grilled mutton). A unique local custom, Sapporo Parfait, encourages visitors to finish the night with luxurious desserts instead of ramen.

Shopping highlights include Pole Town, an underground mall, and the historic Tanuki Koji arcade. The Norbesa building offers a rooftop Ferris wheel with panoramic city views. During the annual Sapporo Snow Festival in February, Susukino hosts the Ice Sculpture Exhibition (Susukino Ice World) along Ekimae-dori, featuring spectacular ice carvings that attract tourists from around the world.
