“Enjoy breathtaking views of islands, lakes, and Mount Komagatake with activities including canoeing, fishing, cycling, and winter snow sports, plus the annual Hakodate Snow Festival.”
Onuma Quasi National Park is situated about 20 kilometers north of Hakodate city, adjacent to Onuma Train Station. From spring to autumn, boat and bicycle rentals are available near the station (approximately 400-500 yen per hour), allowing visitors to explore the expansive park and its scenic lakes and islands. Walking paths along the lakeshore also provide relaxing nature walks.
In winter, the lake freezes and becomes covered with snow, transforming the area into a snow playground. Visitors can rent sleds and snowmobiles to enjoy the snowy landscape, all framed by the impressive peak of Mount Komagatake.
The park hosts the Hakodate Snow Festival early each year, featuring snow and ice sculpture competitions and various vendor booths. While smaller than the famous Sapporo Snow Festival, it offers a charming local atmosphere.
Onuma Quasi National Park is perfect for travelers who enjoy nature and outdoor activities throughout all seasons.
