“A historically significant island where King Rama V’s royal monogram (Chor Por Ror) is engraved on a cave wall. The island is also a long-standing swiftlet bird’s nest concession area, known for its untouched marine life and beautiful coral reefs ideal for snorkeling.”
Langkajiu Island is one of the most famous islands in the Chumphon Archipelago National Park, located about 12 kilometers off Hat Sai Ri Beach. It is a small island with a relatively short perimeter but is full of charm in terms of history, nature, and the richness of its marine ecosystem.
The island has natural lim during his southern tour in 1897 (B.E. 2430). The inscription is located at the western cave entrance, serving as an important historical record reflecting the connection between the king and the people of Chumphon, and is a must-see for all visitors.
Beyond its historical value, Langkajiu is also known as an important swiftlet bird’s nest concession island in Chumphon Province. Access to the island is strictly regulated to maintain ecological balance and protect the nesting of swiftlets, ensuring the island remains pristine, with crystal-clear waters and healthy surrounding coral reefs.
The island’s popular snorkeling and diving spots are located on the western and southern sides, featuring fringing reefs with a diverse range of marine life, including staghorn coral, plate coral, brain coral, sea anemones, coral shrimp, and schools of colorful fish, particularly clownfish and parrotfish, making it a paradise for snorkelers and underwater photographers.
For those taking a One-Day Trip, Langkajiu is often included in Chumphon Archipelago tours, which take visitors to snorkel at key islands such as Ngam Yai Island, Ngam Noi Island, and Langkajiu Island, returning to the mainland in the evening. This type of trip is suitable for tourists who want to experience the beauty of Chumphon’s sea without overnighting on the island.
There are no facilities on the island, such as restaurants or accommodation, as it is a conservation area. Visitors should bring necessary supplies, food, and drinking water. When visiting, one must follow park officers’ instructions strictly to preserve the natural environment and historical sites.
