“The pink ordination hall features a rare fusion of Thai, Chinese, European, and Cambodian architecture, housing the sacred Phra Rattanasuwan and exquisite Buddhist paintings on zinc plates.”

Wat Kaeo Phichit is an ancient temple and one of the important landmarks of Prachinburi Province. Located on the banks of the Prachinburi River in the city center, the temple is famous for its light pink ordination hall, which boasts a distinctive architectural style unlike typical Thai temples. It's a harmonious blend of Thai, Chinese, European, and Khmer influences, earning it the moniker "Temple of Four Nations Architecture." This unique style attracts tourists, photographers, and those who appreciate religious art from across the country.

Wat Kaeo Phichit was built during the reign of King Rama V, around the late 19th century, before undergoing a major renovation in 1918 by Chao Phraya Abhaiphubesra (Chum Abhaiwong), a prominent figure in Prachinburi Province at that time. This renovation resulted in the construction of the current ordination hall, meticulously combining artistic concepts from various countries. The roof retains the traditional Thai style with finials, bargeboards, and swan-tail ornaments, while the gable and decorative motifs clearly show Chinese influence, particularly the dragon motifs and embellishments on the roof ridge. The archways, windows, and pillars surrounding the building are inspired by European architecture, utilizing Corinthian columns and Western-style arched windows. Meanwhile, the building's base and some elements show the influence of Khmer art, which was popular in the region in the past.

Inside the main chapel is a revered Buddha image in the Maravijaya posture, serving as the focal point of faith for the people of Prachinburi. The atmosphere inside is serene and filled with fascinating artistic details. One of the highlights is the rare mural paintings on zinc sheets adorning the interior walls of the chapel. These paintings depict stories from the Buddha's life, Jataka tales, and Buddhist moral teachings, influenced by Western art techniques from the reign of King Rama V. The paintings employ Western painting styles of light, shadow, dimension, and detail, blended with traditional Thai content, making them valuable both artistically and historically.

The surrounding area of the temple is lush and retains the atmosphere of an old riverside temple. Tourists can explore the various buildings within the temple, including a small museum housing artifacts, Buddha images, antique utensils, and items related to the local history of Prachinburi province. Therefore, this temple is not just a place of worship but also an important learning center for the art, culture, history, and architecture of the Eastern region.

Wat Kaew Phichit is currently one of the important tourist attractions in Prachinburi province, popular with both Thai and foreign tourists. Located not far from Bangkok, many visitors come to worship, admire the architecture, take photos, and experience the tranquil atmosphere by the river. This is especially true during the morning and evening when the sunlight reflects beautifully off the colors of the main temple building. This temple is therefore a significant example of the blending of foreign artistic and cultural influences into unique and historically valuable Thai architecture.
