“A majestic yellow Baroque building housing Thailand's most complete traditional medicine museum. This historic landmark perfectly blends Western architectural elegance with profound local herbal wisdom.”

Chao Phraya Abhaibhubejhr Building is a significant Western-style architectural structure, important for its historical significance, traditional Thai medicine, and early Rattanakosin period architecture. It was built around 1909-1910 by Chao Phraya Abhaibhubejhr (Chum Abhaiwong), the governor of Prachinburi at the time. The primary purpose was to serve as accommodation and preparation for a royal visit to Prachinburi by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). However, the King passed away before the building could be used for its original purpose.

The building exhibits European Renaissance and Baroque architectural influences, characterized by its two-story structure in a light yellow tone, Western-style stucco decorations, tall arched European windows, and symmetrical elements reflecting the flourishing of colonial architecture influenced by the West during the reign of Rama V. Inside, the layout retains traditional Western elements, such as the central hall, wooden staircase, and rooms that were originally used as government offices of the hospital.

After its construction, the building was not originally intended to be a residence for royalty, but was repurposed for public health, becoming part of the Chao Phraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital. It housed examination rooms, pharmacies, and a women's ward in the early 20th century until the main hospital units moved to a new building in 1969. Following this, the building was conserved and registered as a historical monument by the Fine Arts Department in 1990.

Later, in 1996, the building was restored and developed into the "Abhaibhubejhr Traditional Thai Medicine Museum." This museum plays a crucial role in collecting knowledge of Thai herbal medicine, ancient medicinal recipes, traditional Thai medical instruments, and rare palm-leaf manuscripts. It also showcases the history of the Abhaiwongse family and the development of traditional Thai medicine in Thailand. The surrounding area serves as a center for the development of the "Abhaibhubejhr Brand," a nationally renowned brand of herbal products including medicines, cosmetics, and health products. Therefore, the building is not only a historical tourist attraction but also a national center of knowledge in traditional Thai medicine.
